This course is suitable for all health care professional who are involved in the clinical management of patients who present with advanced HIV and opportunistic infections.

Each year we have a wide range of professionals register to attend the course – including pharmacy, nursing colleagues and medical doctors (consultants and resident doctors) working across ID and GUM/HIV specialties.

This course takes place annually at an East London venue. It is a 1 day face to face course and its inaugural course was held in June 2025.

The HIV Apollo course receives funding from pharmaceutical companies to run this course. The funding provides logistics, catering support for the delegates. The course organisers retain full control over the course content and educational aspects of the course.

Delegates pay a token fee to register for the course to avoid no-shows and enable course logistics and catering to be organised.

HIV Apollo provides travel bursaries to 10 delegates. The delegates must register for the course, and live more than 100 miles from central London. The value of the bursary is £150.

 

The topics covered are focussed on presentations related to advanced HIV and opportunistic infections. Examples such as   Renal crises in HIV, Neurological infections in advanced HIV and Heamatological syndromes in ddvanced HIV have been covered.

Dr Nashaba Matin is the course founder of the HIV Apollo course. Dr Subathira Dakshina and Dr Simon Rackstraw are part of the Education Faculty that help to organise the course each year. All three are experienced HIV Medicine consultants based at Barts Health NHS Trust in London, UK. The HIV service based at Barts Health is one of the largest HIV services in Europe and provides in-patient support to a large part of London and the surrounding counties.

The Greek god Apollo is known as the god of music, dance and archery as well as  the god of healing and disease. Hence this course is named the HIV Apollo Course.

To demonstrate the over-arching aim of the course which is to tackle disease and ill-health and enable people living with HIV to live healthily and enjoy life into old age.

The booking link is released each year in March for the June course. In 2025 the course was on Friday June 13th 2025, in 2026 the course is on Friday June 19th 2026.

Yes – the delegates are provided with morning coffee and afternoon tea, a full lunch is provided and a wine and cheese  networking reception at the end of the day.
